This week, I found myself recommending these 3 (old) books to NEW clients; brave and beautiful women who are ready to take their lives back into their own hands (AKA: from victim to victory).
Why these books, you might ask? Because they are FOUNDATIONAL when a woman starts her healing work.
Imagine you want to build a house… Well, of course, you would want a really strong foundation! It is the “material” that nobody else can see; the “sweat and tears” you pour in wholeheartedly so the house above the ground would stand strong later on.
Here are the books, in case you haven’t read them yet, you must ASAP: *
1. WOMEN WHO LOVE TOO MUCH; When You Keep Wishing and Hoping He’ll Change, by Robin Norwood.
Women Who Love Too Much distills Robin Norwood’s entire career as a therapist specializing in the treatment of co-alcoholism and relationship addiction. Through their own words and stories, women who love too much reveal the roots of their attraction to difficult, troubled, distant men, and Norwood offers them, and you, a way out of the pain using a ten-point guide to recovery, happiness, and fulfillment.
2. SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? Surviving a Relationship with a Narcissist, by Ramani Durvasula, PhD.
Narcissism is a modern epidemic, and it’s spreading rapidly. But how do you know if you are in a relationship with one and, what can you do about it? We live in a world of romance and rescue, where many believe love will conquer all, and that the more we endure unacceptable behavior, the more likely that we can “fix” our relationships. It doesn’t always work that way, despite what the fairy tales tell us. There are a few hard facts about pathological narcissism that most people don’t know and most psychologists will never tell you. Should I Stay or Should I Go? uses checklists, clinical wisdom, and real stories from real people to prepare you for the real terrain of pathological narcissism. It raises the red flags to watch for and provides a realistic roadmap for difficult situations to help you reclaim yourself, find healing, and live an authentic and empowered life. Whether you stay. Or go.
3. MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING, by Viktor Frankl
“An enduring work of survival literature,” according to the New York Times, Viktor Frankl’s riveting account of his time in the Nazi concentration camps, and his insightful exploration of the human will to find meaning in spite of the worst adversity, has offered solace and guidance to generations of readers since it was first published in 1946. At the heart of Frankl’s theory of logo-therapy (from the Greek word for “meaning”) is a conviction that the primary human drive is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but rather the discovery and pursuit of what the individual finds meaningful. Today, as new generations face new challenges and an ever more complex and uncertain world, Frankl’s classic work continues to inspire us all to find significance in the very act of living, in spite of all obstacles. This book has been translated in 50 languages.

These 3 books represent the mere beginning of Self-understanding; I ask my clients to read tens of books over the course of their work with me. Awakening has a price, and so does ignorance. Choose wisely.
